Pilots navigate the sky using a route plotted with beacons and waypoints. The waypoints are geographic coordinates usually marked with five-letter, capitalized words that help pilots and air traffic controllers stay on course.
The unique things about waypoints, and probably the most interesting to a non-pilot, are the names themselves. This blog series will attempt to share all the best waypoints found in the FAA National Flight Data Center, but if you know of any interesting or funny ones, feel free to tweet us at @EnvoyAirCareers using the hashtag #EnvoyWaypoints.
In this installment we’ll open the lid on the ubiquitous theme of nosh, grub, chow – that’s right, we’re talking about FOOD. Is there anything more universally binding for the human species than discussing, eating, cooking food? Probably not.
Click on the maps to see the waypoints’ exact location! Enjoy!

Grab some napkins, it’s barbecue time!
Humankind separates itself from the rest of the animal kingdom in one very particular way; we use fire to cook our food. It’s no wonder why the smell of roasting, smoking meat food* brings out that primal hunger in all of us. *Hey, vegans barbecue too!
