60 Second Interview: Maintenance Crew Chief Crystal Newbury

Posted

In celebration of Women’s History Month, we’re sharing a series of sixty-second interviews from the women employees and leaders all across the Envoy operation. For this installment, we hear from Crystal Newbury, who is an Aircraft Maintenance Crew Chief at the hangar in Abilene, Texas.

What makes you proud?

My current position in my job makes me proud, because I was given the right opportunities at the right time that allowed me to be able to reach each of my goals and move up in the company. I feel that being able to transition from one position to another while climbing the company ladder has helped me personally by teaching me how to become a better and more knowledgeable person at work and at home.

Who inspires you?

My mother inspires me everyday. She was the hardest working woman I knew. She built houses and was a journeyman plasterer in a non-traditional career field.

She told me if I wanted to work in the aviation industry as a mechanic, then I shouldn’t let anything stand in my way.

What do you love most about your job?

The day-to-day challenges maintaining aircraft, along with having a great camaraderie among the maintenance teams.

If you were not in the aviation industry, what other job would you do?

If I were not in aviation, I would be working at a green house nursery, because I love landscaping, the outdoors and having the ability to help plants grow.

Tell us one or two things on your travel bucket list.

My travel bucket is pretty full, but I am knocking it down every year. I am a travel bug. I will be visiting Italy this year and hopefully Ireland by 2023.
