The Sky is the Limit – Girls in Aviation Day 2022

Posted

While women have not always had a strong presence in the flight deck, they have gradually made strides within the industry, and today, many are thriving in nontraditional roles. By partnering with organizations such as Women in Aviation International (WAI), Envoy is dedicated to opening doors and further increasing female representation within the aviation sector.

On September 24, WAI chapters around the globe hosted the eighth annual “International Girls In Aviation Day” to educate and empower young women interested in aviation and aerospace. Envoy proudly participated as a sponsor in the WAI North Texas Chapter event at Dallas Executive Airport (RBD) in Dallas, Texas. This year, more than 1,000 participants experienced the magic of aviation and explored the possibilities of careers across the industry. Activities included over a dozen interactive learning stations, an opportunity to speak with real pilots, and a scavenger hunt.

Among female aviators at the “talk to a pilot” table was Envoy First Officer Makenna Rushalk. “What I enjoyed most at GIAD was meeting all the young girls who were genuinely interested in aviation and witnessing their excitement and curiosity,” shared Makenna. “I didn’t see many women pilots when I was a young girl, so I hadn’t initially considered becoming a pilot until later in life. I hope that meeting us and talking to the women pilots inspired them to pursue an aviation career in their future.”

Throughout her table discussions, Makenna had one clear message for the girls: “Go for it! Take a discovery flight and see if it’s right for you. Becoming a pilot comes with its challenges, as any training does, but if you enjoy it, the sky is the limit! All the support and resources are available to make your dream of becoming a pilot come true.”

Envoy is proud to support WAI and its dedication to the encouragement and advancement of women in all aviation and aerospace careers. Today and every day, we celebrate the many capable and successful women of the industry and Envoy who are vital to the success of our airline.
