In a heartwarming display of community engagement, the Envoy Team at the Abilene Regional Airport (ABI) recently collaborated with Abilene Airport support staff to host an unforgettable experience for guests from the Adaptive Recreation Center, a program of the Betty Hardwick Center.
The Betty Hardwick Center is the Mental Health and Intellectual and Developmental Disability Authority providing vital support to individuals across all age groups in need of mental health services, intellectual and developmental disability assistance, and early childhood intervention.
Led by Envoy General Manager Amanda Martinez and Airport Operations Manager Tim Brown, the Adaptive Recreation Center’s “travel club” enjoyed a behind-the-scenes tour of the airport that left a lasting impression. Two groups of eight attendees were given exclusive access to areas typically off-limits to the public, including the ticket counter, baggage claim, and the airport ramp.
Guests had the rare opportunity to watch landings and takeoffs from the ramp, see the baggage sorting process, and even visit the airport fire rescue team. The day’s highlight was a thrilling water cannon salute by the fire department, which brought excitement and smiles to everyone involved.
This event was more than just a tour—it was a day of discovery and joy for the attendees, offering them a unique glimpse into the world of air travel. The dedication of the Envoy Team and Abilene Airport staff in creating this inclusive experience exemplifies their commitment to serving all members of the community. The tour not only provided unforgettable memories but also reinforced the importance of accessibility and inclusivity in all aspects of life.
Kudos to the Abilene Airport for coordinating and the Envoy Team at ABI for supporting this event!
