Some friendships are written in the stars—and others are built at 30,000 feet. In honor of National Best Friends Day, recognized each year on June 8, we’re celebrating the special bond between two pairs of Envoy BFFs, Flight Attendants Kathy Chavez, Lisa Siqueiros, Yvonne Cunningham and Alison Kowatch.
30 Years of friendship and flying
Envoy Flight Attendants Kathy Chavez and Lisa Siqueiros met in 1994 during their very first days of training at Envoy, which was then called American Eagle Airlines. From the moment they met in class, Lisa and Kathy became instant friends. After graduating training, they both made their way to their base in Chicago—and, by fate or luck, got to fly their very first trip together. The duo shared a crash pad along with other Flight Attendants, where their friendship only grew stronger.
Eventually, they both transferred back to Dallas, and continued to stay close. Over the past 30 years, they’ve shared countless adventures—from girls’ trips to Las Vegas and Playa del Carmen, to cheering on their beloved Dallas Cowboys every football season. Whether it’s watching a game, talking on the phone, or reminiscing about their adventures, their connection has never faded.
They’ve supported each other through career highs and personal challenges, celebrating the wins and lifting each other during the tougher times. Through it all, one thing has remained constant: their loyalty, laughter, and love for one another.
“I truly cherish our long friendship,” Kathy shared. “We’ve been there for each other through everything. Lisa is one of my dearest and most loyal friends.”
25 years of soaring through life together
In 2000, Envoy (then American Eagle Airlines) held an open house in Abilene, TX—an event that unknowingly sparked a 25-year friendship between two future flight attendants, Yvonne Cunningham and Alison Kowatch. After attending separate sessions that day, they ended up in the same interview group at American Airlines’ headquarters and instantly connected.
The night before training began, they found themselves taking shelter in a Fort Worth mall during a tornado warning—a fitting start to a friendship that’s weathered many storms. Since then, they’ve flown nearly every aircraft in the Envoy fleet, shared life’s milestones, and traveled the world together.
“Flying with Alison has never felt like a job,” said Yvonne. “She’s been by my side through weddings, losses, and everything in between. She’s not just a friend—she’s family.”
Now, 25 years later, Yvonne and Alison will celebrate their service anniversary just as they began this journey—side by side.
This Best Friends Day, we’re raising a toast to friendships that stand the test of time — and to Kathy, Lisa, Yvonne, and Alison whose stories remind us that sometimes, the best part of the journey is who you share it with. 💙👯♀️✈️
