Double Life: Lights, Camera, Customer Care!

At Envoy, we take pride in our workforce, where employees not only excel in their roles within the Company but also pursue their passions outside of work. Today, we’re shining a light and hitting the record button on Jessica Evans, one of our many dedicated Customer Service Agents from our station at Jackson Municipal Airport (JAN) in Jackson, Mississippi.

From Customer Service to Cinematic Storytelling

Jessica joined Envoy because of her strong interest in the travel and tourism industry and her love of working in a team-oriented environment. “It brings me joy to assist our passengers as they journey to destinations around the world,” says Jessica. “With the support of my team and our leadership, I feel like there is a positive and encouraging work atmosphere that makes every shift enjoyable and helps me grow both personally and professionally,” she adds.

In addition to enjoying her work caring for customers, she has loved raising her five beautiful daughters but realized that she had lost touch with her own dreams. Using her travel privileges, she began a journey of self-discovery with an impromptu trip to Los Angeles, California. While there, she scored audience tickets to the television game show Let’s Make a Deal. To her surprise, she ended up as a contestant on the show and had the opportunity to watch the behind-the-scenes magic unfold. From the producers to the camera crew, she felt deeply moved by the teamwork and creativity it took to bring a show to life. That experience sparked something in her that she couldn’t ignore, reminding her of the plays she was involved with in school and church while growing up. She left that trip with a goal to pursue storytelling through film and sought to find her community where she could grow and create.

When she returned home, she began volunteering at local film festivals, like the JXN Film Festival in JAN, which opened the door for her to collaborate with filmmakers who needed support on their projects. In turn, this provided her with the hands-on training and experience she was seeking.

An Award-winning Filmmaker

Jessica’s volunteering provided her with experience both in front of and behind the camera lens, leading her to write, direct, and score her first short film, Touched. This personal project, a modern-day faith-based film, allowed her to ensure that the story she told was communicated with heart, purpose, and authenticity. With support from her film community, her short film was shot in the JAN area and made its way onto the festival circuit.

At the 2025 International Black & Diversity Film Festival (IBDFF) in Ajax, Ontario, Canada, Jessica won the award for Best Film by a Black Female Filmmaker.

“It was truly surreal and humbling. It felt like confirmation that following my purpose and trusting the process was worth it. To have my very first film recognized on an international stage reminded me that our stories matter and that it’s never too late to start walking in your calling,” said Jessica.

It’s a Balancing Act

As Touched continues its festival journey, Jessica is already writing her next film titled The Janitor during her spare time. She says that finding that work/life balance takes planning and passion. Using her time off to focus on filmmaking and staying connected to her creative community is what keeps her inspired.

When asked about the similarities between filmmaking and her work at Envoy, she said, “Both require strong communication, teamwork, and the ability to adapt quickly. It’s all about creating a positive experience — whether it’s for an audience watching a story unfold or for a customer traveling to their next destination. If you’re looking to apply at Envoy, be ready to bring a positive attitude and a team-first mindset every day. Working here is fast paced but incredibly rewarding. If you enjoy helping people and thrive in a dynamic environment, this is a great place to grow.”

Congratulations, Jessica, on making your dreams come true!
