2024 President’s Award Winner: Shane Spillman

With over 25 years in the sky, Shane Spillman has never lost sight of what matters most: safety, efficiency, and a great attitude. Every morning, he starts his day with a smile and a simple mantra: “We are going to have a great day and get all our passengers from point A to point B as quickly and safely as possible.” That mindset has made a lasting impression, not just on his colleagues, but on countless passengers over the years. It’s also one of the many reasons Shane was named a 2024 President’s Award Winner.

But Shane’s talents don’t stop in the air. Off the clock, he’s a passionate softball player whose team has made it to the Softball World Series three times!

We sat down with Shane to hear more about his work and life outside of the airport.

Are there any hobbies or interests outside of work that you’re passionate about?

On my days off over the years, (I’ve been flying for 25 years!) I enjoy playing kickball, volleyball and softball. I was the Fundraising Director for my league in St Louis for over a decade and have played in three Softball World Series. I was also inducted into the St Louis Softball Hall of Fame in 2021. One of favorite trips was jumping across the pond to London in 2023 to see my St Louis Cardinals play the Chicago Cubs.

Another favorite activity is supporting the Arts, specifically theater. I will always say “YES” to going to the theater to see a musical. I’ve seen shows from London’s West End to Broadway to Chicago and of course my home theater, The Fabulous Fox Theater in St Louis. It’s a great way to relax and disconnect for a few hours.

Are there any memorable moments or significant milestones in your career that stand out to you?

My fondest memories of my time at American Eagle Airlines and Envoy were the eight years that I was fortunate enough to buddy bid with my aunt, retired flight attendant, Becky Cherry.

My absolute favorite place to travel is Puerto Vallarta. I have lost track on how many times I’ve been. I highly recommend Puerto Vallarta to relax and recharge your batteries.

What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned throughout your career? How do you stay motivated and maintain high standards in your work?

My family is my everything.  All my words and actions are a direct reflection of my parents and my upbringing. Everything I do is to make my parents proud of me and to teach my niece and nephew the right thing to do. I love traveling with them on our annual trips to Cancun.

What is your favorite part about working at Envoy? What has been the most rewarding aspect of your career so far?

I do love being a flight attendant and I hope it shows. I approach each day with a smile and the mantra of “We are going to have a great day and get all our passengers from point A to point B as quickly and safely as possible.” The saying “If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life,” is true!
