60 second interview: T.J. Grosskopf

Posted

T.J. is the General Manager of our Shreveport (SHV) operation.

How long have you worked in aviation?

It will be 25 years this November. I take great pride that I’ve worked for American Eagle/Envoy all these years.

What attracted you to this industry?

I got started in the industry with United as a Customer Service Representative in Rapid City, South Dakota. It was there that I learned a lot about the industry and took my first non-rev flight for my honeymoon cruise to the Bahamas. My husband Tim received orders from the U.S. Air Force to transfer to Shreveport, Louisiana, which is where I was hired as a station agent when American Eagle started service there. I was looking for a career and the airline industry had many doors to walk through.

What advice would you give to those starting out in your field?

My best advice is to get your foot in the door, take opportunities that come your way, do a great job and venture out to find out what suits you. The sky is the limit and this is an industry where there are so many opportunities to network and find something you enjoy.

What’s the most rewarding part about your current position?

The most rewarding part of being a General Manager is building a team that is able to use the many resources available to us to resolve problems when assisting our customers. I also enjoy helping employees expand their knowledge to grow and develop in this industry.

What’s a fun fact that people might not know about you?

I used to be a keyboard player in a band. Obviously it didn’t go very far but it was fun while it lasted!
