60-Second Interview: Jomarie Toro

In celebration of Hispanic & Latino Heritage Month, we’re sharing a series of sixty-second interviews from our Hispanic & Latinx Leaders, all across the Envoy operation, who have been a large part of growing the company from the days of American Eagle.

For this installment, we hear from Flight Service Regional Manager Jomarie Toro, who manages our flight attendant training department at our headquarters in Irving, Texas.

When did you get your start in aviation, and what was your first position?

I started in 2000, and worked in San Juan Airport (SJU) as a Support Agent in the Wheelchair and Unaccompanied Minor department.

What did you learn then that you believe has helped you achieve the position you’re in now?

I learned to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, and that everyone is different but an important piece in the big puzzle. Also, that taking care of our employees is crucial for the success of our business.

What does it mean to you to celebrate our Hispanic & Latinx heroes, historical figures, pioneers and visionaries during this annual, national recognition?

I feel a lot of pride when I see my beautiful flag. It makes me really proud to see how many successful Hispanic leaders we have.

With Envoy/American Eagle’s history in Puerto Rico and current operations and relationships in Mexico, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean, why is it important to you that we’re a company made up of so many diverse backgrounds?

Diversity is crucial and important to our success as a company. It’s important to me to be accepting and respectful of our co-workers’ values while embracing their culture.

Tell us one “Fun Fact” about you that many people might not know!

I can’t ever get the lyrics of a song right, so I typically come up with my own that rhyme (especially English songs)!
