A Real American Hero at JAN

What began as a routine deplaning process for a recent flight at Jackson-Medgar Wiley Evers International Airport (JAN) quickly turned into a moment that demanded urgency, composure, and compassion.

As people made their way off the aircraft via the jet bridge at the gate, one customer suddenly lost his balance. In a matter of seconds, he fell and struck his head on an ice cooler, resulting in a deep gash that began bleeding heavily. What could have escalated into a more serious situation was met with swift and decisive action. Customer Service Agent Cedrick Smith didn’t hesitate.

Cedrick immediately rushed to assist the injured customer, helping him safely off the floor and into an aisle chair. Recognizing the severity of the situation, Cedrick reassured the passenger before quickly stepping away to retrieve the necessary first aid supplies. Within moments, he returned with the red emergency bag, ready to respond.

With calm focus, Cedrick applied gauze to the wound, working to control the bleeding while continuing to reassure the passenger that help was on the way. His presence brought a sense of stability during a chaotic moment, bridging the gap until medical professionals arrived. And for one customer, that made all the difference.

Cedrick received a $1,000 cash prize and a very special Real American Hero cape for his lifesaving actions. Way to go!
