Building the Foundation: Sheet Metal Familiarization Training

You might not think much about the sheet metal that makes up the exterior of our aircraft, but it plays a critical role in aerodynamics and running a safe operation for our colleagues and customers. For our Aircraft Maintenance team, learning how to effectively inspect, document and repair sheet metal – from hail and weather events, to bird strikes, equipment and other damage and more – is a critical part of keeping our fleet and passengers safe.

That’s why the Envoy Maintenance Training team recently developed an enhanced and improved Aircraft Sheet Metal Familiarization course. Hosted at the Envoy hangar at Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas (DFW), this 40-hour, hands-on training gives AMTs the foundational skills needed for structural repair, from layout and drilling to deburring and proper fastener installation.

Throughout the course, employees work through real-world repair scenarios in a controlled environment before seeing how those techniques would apply to sheet metal on our aircraft. The training focuses not only on how to complete each task, but also why each step matters—reinforcing the procedures and standards that ensure quality work every time.

Way to go, Maintenance training team!

Maintenance teams who would like to learn more about this training should reach out to their base manager for more information.
