Each May, Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month offers a chance to reflect, learn and celebrate the stories that shape our shared experience.
Across Envoy’s network, employees honor the month in ways that reflect their communities, backgrounds and personal journeys.
To highlight these voices, we’re sharing a 60‑Second Interview featuring Dorean Duhaylongsod, a Customer Service Agent in Eugene, Oregon. Dorean shares how she celebrates AAPI Heritage Month, stays connected to her culture and where she hopes to travel next.
How do you celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month?
Attending cultural events in local communities is one of the many ways I celebrate. I also support local businesses and attend events and performances. Getting together with my ‘Ohana (family) and learning more about early immigration and community history are especially meaningful to me.
Are there any foods, holidays, traditions or routines that help you stay connected to your culture year-round?
We all know food brings people together for all occasions, and that’s one of the main ways I stay close to my culture. Participating in local festivals that showcase Hawaiian traditional music and art forms, like hula, helps me stay connected. It is also a way to celebrate and share Hawaiian culture with everyone.
What do you love about your job?
Meeting people near and far is my passion. Working at Envoy gives me the privilege to do exactly that.
If you were not in the aviation industry, what job would you do?
As a former educator, I see myself continuing to do what I love most, helping others.
What is something you are proud of?
Supporting Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders in American society is something I am very proud of doing.
What is one thing on your bucket list?
To step foot on a continent I have never visited before…Africa!
