60 Second Interview: Clint Covarrubias

Each June, Pride Month offers an opportunity to reflect, learn and celebrate the stories that shape our shared experience. Across Envoy’s network, employees honor the month in ways that reflect their communities, backgrounds and personal journeys. Today, we’re talking with Clint Covarrubias, Air Operations Recruiter.

How do you celebrate Pride Month?

I like to celebrate Pride Month by revisiting some of my favorite movies and shows. There are so many stories that highlight different perspectives and experiences, and I always enjoy taking the time to watch them again or discover something new. A few of my favorites include Love, Simon, Heartstopper, and To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar. For me, it’s a meaningful way to reflect, relax and feel connected to a larger community through storytelling.

What do you love about your job?

My favorite part of my job is getting to travel and meet so many different people along the way. As a recruiter, I have the opportunity to connect with pilots at all stages of their journey. Every trip brings something new, whether it’s a conversation that sticks with you or a place you’ve never been before. My first recruiting trip was earlier this year to the National Gay Pilot Association (NGPA) Expo in Palm Springs, California, and it was an incredible experience spending time with more pilots in the LGBTQIA+ community.

If you were not in the aviation industry, what job would you do?

If I weren’t in aviation, I would definitely be a teacher. I’ve always been drawn to the idea of helping others learn and grow, whether that’s working with elementary-aged students or teaching high school English. There’s something really special about being able to make an impact in someone’s life and help them build confidence and skills they’ll carry with them long-term.

What makes you proud?

Something that makes me proud in my current role is being able to connect with such a wide variety of people and play even a small part in helping them achieve their goals. Whether it’s guiding someone through the application process or just answering questions and offering support, it’s rewarding to know that I’m helping others move forward in their careers.

Tell us something on your bucket list.

As a self-proclaimed nerd, one of the things on my bucket list is to go back to Japan and visit every Pokémon Center location. I had the chance to visit a couple of them a few years ago, and it was such a fun experience. Since then, I’ve wanted to make a full trip out of it and see them all.

Anything you want to share with us?

I’d just like to say thank you to everyone at Envoy who has helped make my experience here such a positive one. It means a lot to feel supported and to be in an environment where I can be my true and authentic self. That kind of culture makes a real difference, and I’m grateful to be part of it.
