From September 15 to October 15, the United States observes National Hispanic Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the history, traditions, and cultural heritage of Hispanic Americans whose heritage is rooted in Spain and 19 countries and territories: Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Cuba, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic.
Across the system, employees honor the month in ways that reflect their communities, backgrounds and personal journeys. Today, we’re featuring a 60-Second interview with Anthony Gutierrez, who began his Envoy journey as a 2026 summer intern before joining the company full time as a coordinator in Air Operations Recruiting at Envoy Headquarters in Irving, Texas.
How do you celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month?
I celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by spending quality time with my family and embracing the traditions that bring us together. One of my favorite ways to end the day is by sharing a peaceful cup of coffee and sweet bread with my loved ones. It’s a simple tradition, but one that reminds me of the importance of family, culture and staying connected to my roots.
What are some ways you celebrate and stay connected with your community in your everyday life?
One way I stay connected to my community is by proudly sharing my Hispanic heritage and encouraging others to do the same. I enjoy creating an environment where people feel comfortable talking about their backgrounds and experiences. It’s important to me that those of Hispanic descent know they are seen, supported and never alone.
You started as an intern here at Envoy. What was that experience like?
My experience as an Envoy intern was incredible. I was part of a fun and welcoming cohort, and the events organized by Recruiting and Talent Acquisition helped create meaningful connections among interns from across the company.
As the HR Generalist intern, I had the opportunity to work closely with HR Business Partners Joshua Hernandez, Charity Ayansola and McKay Criddle. One of the highlights of my internship was traveling with Charity to several hubs, where I gained firsthand insight into how HR teams support employees throughout the operation.
I also worked with Alexis Ybanez and Nancy Rivera in Talent Development on various projects, which allowed me to learn about another side of the business. The experience gave me the opportunity to immerse myself in Envoy’s culture, build relationships across departments and gain a deeper understanding of the people who make the company successful.
If you were not in the aviation industry, what job would you do?
I’m currently pursuing my master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence at UT Arlington, so if I weren’t working in aviation, I would love to pursue a career in technology, specifically in artificial intelligence or analytics. I’m fascinated by the ways technology can solve complex problems, improve decision-making and drive innovation.
What makes you proud?
What makes me proud is seeing people come together and support one another. I enjoy watching individuals from different backgrounds build meaningful connections and create a strong sense of community. Seeing people work toward a common goal and help each other succeed is something that always inspires me.
Tell us something on your bucket list.
Skydiving has been on my bucket list for quite some time. Working in the aviation industry has only made me more interested in the experience, and I’m hoping to finally cross it off my list in the near future.
