Fleet Service Clerk George Aikens Jr. at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) has always had an interest in travel, especially air travel. His dedication to his work, commitment to treating everyone with respect and care, and willingness to help those around him earned him the 2025 Envoy President’s Award.
In fact, his nomination highlighted a time when he took it upon himself to clean out a refrigerator in the break room after a power outage at the station. It was a task no one wanted to tackle, but George stepped up and handled it without being asked.
Below, George shares what motivates him each day, the values that guide his approach to work and where he hopes his flight benefits will take him next.
What inspired you to pursue a career in aviation? Can you tell us about your career path and what led you to your current position?
I’ve been interested in planes and transportation since I was young. Whenever I had the opportunity to fly, visit new cities and experience different cultures, I felt excited and inspired. When the opportunity to work at Envoy came along, I saw it as a chance to pursue my dream of traveling the world.
What do you believe sets your approach to work apart from others?
I come to work every day with the goal of treating everyone I meet with respect, love and kindness. I enjoy working with my coworkers, and it makes me happy when I can go above and beyond to help others whenever I’m able.
Are there any memorable moments or significant milestones in your career that stand out to you?
Winning the President’s Award is definitely the most notable milestone in my career so far. It means a lot to know that showing up every day and helping those around me has led to this achievement.
How do you stay motivated and maintain high standards in your work?
The people I work with are what make the environment so great, which makes it easy to stay motivated and get the job done.
What is your favorite part about working at Envoy? What has been the most rewarding aspect of your career so far?
Traveling is my favorite part of working at Envoy. The flight benefits have allowed me to visit multiple countries and share those experiences with my family.
One of my personal goals is to visit the Seven Wonders of the World, so I plan to make the most of the benefits that come with being an Envoy employee.
What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned throughout your career?
Networking and communication are key. Treat the janitor with the same respect you would give the CEO, and you’ll find opportunities opening up throughout your career.
Are there any hobbies or interests outside of work that you’re passionate about?
Outside of work and traveling, I enjoy playing in a basketball league and spending time playing video games.
